Google Business Profile Management That Turns the Map Pack Into Booked Work

The map pack is three results. Everyone else scrolls past. Your profile decides whether you are one of the three, and it is the only marketing asset you own that Google will actively demote for neglect.

Book a strategy call

Most homeowners looking for a contractor never reach a website. They search, they look at the three businesses in the map pack, they read the review count, and they tap to call. Your Google Business Profile is the storefront for that entire transaction. It is also free, which is exactly why it gets set up once and then ignored for four years.

Ranking in the map pack comes down to relevance, distance, and prominence. You cannot move your shop, so the work lives in the other two: telling Google precisely what you do and where, and building the review and engagement signals that mark you as the established option. That is unglamorous, repetitive work. It is also the highest return per hour in local marketing, and after the 2026 Local Service Ads migration it feeds your paid campaigns too.

How the system works

Four systems that run while you’re on the job site.

01

Categories and services that match how people search

One primary category carries most of the weight, and picking the wrong one caps you before you start. We set the primary and secondaries against your real revenue mix, then fill the services list with the specific work you sell so Google can match you to the search instead of guessing. There is no category for every niche, so part of this is choosing the closest one that ranks and covering the rest through services and content.

02

Service areas set the way Google now requires

You get up to 20 service areas and Google expects them to stay inside roughly a two-hour drive of your base. Since June 2025 they explicitly tell you not to list whole states or countries, and profiles that do get treated as noise. If you do not serve customers at your address, the address comes off. We set this correctly once so the profile stops fighting you.

03

Photos, posts, and proof, on a real cadence

Finished project photos with real geotags, before and after sets, team and truck shots, and a weekly post tied to a job you actually completed. This is the part every contractor intends to do and nobody does. We do it, and we do it from your job photos rather than stock, because Google and homeowners both notice the difference.

04

A review engine that keeps compounding

A post-job text sends the customer a one-tap link to your profile while the work is still fresh in their mind. Every new review lifts prominence, which lifts rank, which produces more leads and more reviews. We handle the asks and we write the owner responses, including the awkward ones.

What it fixes

01

You rank for your company name and nothing else.

Search your business and you are the first result. Search what you actually sell, in the town you actually serve, and you are nowhere. That is a relevance problem, and it usually traces back to a category and services list that was filled out in five minutes.

How we fix it: We rebuild the category, services, and description against the searches that produce your revenue, then support them with content that gives Google a reason to believe you.

02

Ten years of great work and forty reviews.

The competitor who has been open eighteen months has three hundred. In the map pack, review count is a ranking input and a trust signal at the same time, so they win the click before anyone compares the work.

How we fix it: A post-job review pipeline that asks every satisfied customer at the moment they are happiest, so a decade of good work finally shows up on the profile.

03

Your service area is a guess or a whole state.

Google added explicit guidance in 2025 against listing states and countries as service areas. Profiles that stretch too far get diluted rather than boosted, and you end up ranking well nowhere.

How we fix it: We set service areas to the drive time you will actually accept, inside Google's limits, so your relevance concentrates where your trucks go.

04

Nobody has touched the profile since setup.

No posts, three photos from 2021, unanswered questions, and a services list that does not include half of what you sell. Meanwhile the profile is quietly the first and often only thing a homeowner sees.

How we fix it: A managed cadence: weekly posts from real jobs, monthly photo uploads, review responses within a day, and a quarterly audit against what Google has changed.

What you get

  • A profile built around the searches that produce revenue, not the ones that produce impressions
  • Map pack visibility across the areas you actually serve, tracked by grid rather than by a single average rank
  • A review count that grows every month without you remembering to ask
  • Photos and posts from real completed jobs, on a cadence, without you sending anything
  • Owner responses on every review, including the bad ones, written in your voice
  • A clean profile feeding your Local Service Ads campaign after the 2026 Google Ads migration

Common questions

Which primary category should a builder or remodeler use?

It depends on your revenue mix, and the honest answer is that Google's list does not have a category for every niche. There is no accessory dwelling unit category, for instance. General contractor, home builder, custom home builder, construction company, and remodeler all exist and behave differently in the map pack. We test against what is already ranking in your market rather than guessing from the label.

Do you still manage Google Business Profile messaging?

No, because it no longer exists. Google removed chat and call history from Business Profiles on July 31, 2024. Any agency selling you profile messaging management is selling a feature that has been gone for two years. We route inquiries through a chat concierge on your site and a phone number instead.

What about the Q and A section?

Google discontinued the Q and A API on November 3, 2025 and the consumer-facing section has been winding down since. We do not sell question seeding as a service anymore. Anything we would have answered there now lives in the services list and on your site, where you keep it.

How long before I see movement in the map pack?

Category and service area corrections can move things in a few weeks. Prominence takes longer because it is built on reviews and activity, and those accumulate at the speed your jobs finish. Expect the first visible change in four to six weeks and the real gains over two to three quarters. Anyone promising the map pack in thirty days is either lucky or lying.

Can I do this myself?

Yes, and some owners should. The work is not complicated, it is just relentless. Weekly posts, monthly photos, review asks after every job, responses within a day, and a periodic check on what Google changed. If you will genuinely do that, you do not need us for this piece. Most owners do it for six weeks and stop.

Do I need suspension recovery help?

If your profile is already suspended, tell us on the call. Reinstatement is a different job with a different timeline and it usually comes down to documentation and address history. We will tell you honestly whether we think it comes back.
