SEO for Contractors, Built Around the Searches That Turn Into Signed Contracts
Traffic is not the product. A homeowner three towns over searching for exactly what you sell, landing on a page built for that search, and booking a consult is the product. Most contractor SEO never gets past the first part.
Book a strategy callSearch is the slowest channel we run and the only one that stops costing more as it grows. Paid lead costs go up every year. A page that ranks for the work you want, in the town you want it, keeps producing after you stop paying for it. That is the entire case for doing this, and it is a good enough case that the national players have been doing it for a decade while local operators run one page and a phone number.
The gap is not talent, it is architecture. A single homepage cannot rank for twelve services across thirty towns. What ranks is a structure: one page per service, one page per service and area combination that you genuinely serve, each one carrying real substance about that work in that place, wired together with internal links and marked up so Google understands what it is looking at. That is the build. It is tedious, it takes months, and it is the reason cheap versions of this do not work.
How the system works
Four systems that run while you’re on the job site.
01
A page architecture that can actually rank
Your service lines crossed with the areas you serve, each one a real page with LocalBusiness and Service schema. When someone searches for your specific service in their specific town, there is a page waiting for them instead of a homepage that mentions everything and specializes in nothing.
02
Substance on every page, not a town name swapped in
The failure mode of programmatic content is one template with the location changed, and Google has been good at catching that for years. Each page needs genuine detail about that service in that area: permit realities, typical project scope, local pricing context, actual project photos. This is the hardest and slowest part of the work and it is why the cheap version does not rank.
03
The technical floor most contractor sites fail
Page speed, mobile rendering, crawlable structure, clean internal links, schema, no duplicate or orphaned pages, and a site that resolves to one canonical version. None of this wins you anything on its own. All of it will hold you back if it is broken, and on a typical contractor site something is broken.
04
Content that catches people before they are shopping
Cost guides, permit and process explainers, timeline breakdowns, and comparison pieces. These rank for the research a homeowner does months before they call anyone, and they are what a chat concierge and an email follow-up have to work with. Ranking for buying-intent searches is the goal. Ranking for the searches that come before it is how you get there first.
What it fixes
You have one page trying to rank for everything.
A homepage listing eight services and a service area map cannot compete against a competitor with a dedicated page for each service in each town. Google has nothing specific to match against the search.
How we fix it: We build the service and area architecture that gives every real search a page built to answer it, then link it together so authority flows through the whole structure.
Your traffic went up and your phone did not.
Plenty of agencies will grow a traffic chart with blog posts nobody searching for your service ever reads. It looks like progress in the report and produces nothing on the calendar.
How we fix it: We report on ranked buying-intent keywords, form and call volume from organic, and booked consults. Traffic is a diagnostic, not the deliverable.
Your site is technically broken and nobody told you.
Duplicate versions of the domain competing with each other, pages that never got indexed, a sitemap pointing at dead URLs, or a template blocking crawlers. Any one of these caps everything else you do.
How we fix it: A full technical audit before any content work, and the fixes shipped rather than handed to you as a PDF of recommendations.
It has been five months and you are not sure anything happened.
SEO takes long enough that a bad engagement can hide inside the timeline for two quarters before anyone notices there was never a plan.
How we fix it: You get the page-by-page build plan up front and a monthly report showing what shipped, what indexed, what moved, and what leads came from it.
What you get
- ✓A page for every service in every area you actually serve, built to rank rather than to fill a sitemap
- ✓Rankings reported against buying-intent searches, not total traffic
- ✓The technical problems capping your site found and fixed, not listed
- ✓Content that earns the research search months before the buying search
- ✓Organic leads that keep arriving after you stop increasing the budget
- ✓A site and a content library you own outright, on your domain
Common questions
How long before SEO produces leads?
Technical fixes can move things in weeks. New pages take a month or more just to index, and competitive local terms take two to three quarters to settle. If you need work booked next month, SEO is the wrong first move and we will tell you to start with Local Service Ads instead. SEO is what makes month eighteen cheaper than month three.
Will hundreds of similar pages get flagged as thin content?
They will if they are one page with the town name swapped, and that is exactly what most programmatic builds are. Each page has to carry genuinely different substance about that service in that area. It is the hardest part of the job and the reason we cannot build four hundred pages in a week.
What do you need from me?
Your service list, your real coverage area, and photos. Photos are almost always the bottleneck. A contractor who has documented finished jobs gets far stronger pages than one handing over three phone pictures, and no amount of writing closes that gap.
Do I own the content if we stop working together?
Yes. It is on your domain, in your site, under your control. That is the whole point of building an owned channel rather than renting one.
What about AI search and AI overviews?
The same structural work is what gets you cited. Clear service and area pages, real substance, schema, and a clean technical base are what these systems pull from. We are not going to sell you a separate AI optimization product for work that overlaps almost entirely with doing SEO properly.
Can you fix a site somebody else built?
Usually. Sometimes the honest answer is that the platform is the problem and rebuilding costs less than working around it for two years. We will tell you which one you are looking at before you commit to anything.
